Choosing a Cue

The first priority for most is price. Cues range from under £10.00 (Please see Pool Cues - Best Sellers) to many hundreds of pounds. So what do you get for your money, all our cues are selected to be value at their price.

Starting with the Jimmy White Supagrip range at £24.99 here

A range of entry level cues with simulated graphite shafts, metallic paint finished butts, a good quality BCE tip and
     1/2 length joint.

Moving on to the cue joint basically the choice is either 1/2 length or 3/4 length joint. This is very much a matter of personal preference with many of todays players tending toward the 3/4 length. That said, the quality of materials and quality of finish are available in both types. The more expensive cues have what is referred to as matching grain. That is, when the cue is put together the grain matches across the joint.

Have a look at the Heritage Range here

These are 1/2 length cues that feature the presitgious heritage plaque and have matching grain performance ash shafts.

And the Signature Range here

These excellent value cues are supplied with 2 extensions 6" and 12" and can be supplied with a case specifically made to       accomodate this range.

Tip choice, generally we recommend keeping the tip supplied with the cue. In nearly all cases these are Blue Diamond tips, a proven and respected tip. If you are unfortunate enough to knock a tip off or just want a change please see our replacing tip guide. However do remember that a tip has to be worn in, spin and ball control will not be at its best until the tip has been played quite a few times.

If you really want to push the boat out have a look at the two Burwat Platinum Cues we have selected here

Limited edition cues with hand selected North American ultimate ash shaft, hand spliced ebony four point butt, rapid release       brass joint system and premium quality Blue Diamond tip. Includes smart extension

At some stage all players get into a situation where they cannot reach. Many of the cues we stock are supplied with a 'Smart Extender' the cue does need to have a compatible threaded socket in the end of the butt. If not we do have the Expanda cue extension. We carry both types please see here

Summing up, Snooker is very much a matter of practice but also a matter of feeling confident so choose a cue you feel happy with and persevere. No doubt Ronnie, John, Steve, Jimmy or Ken could beat most of us with a broom stick. But that is not by chance they all practice, practice, practice.

Looking After Your Cue

Now you invested in a cue please look after it. To prevent your cue from bending / warping there are a few things to bear in mind:

       -  Always try and keep your cue in a rack or hardcase. We have a number of cases specifically designed for 1/2 length
jointed and 3/4 length jointed and Signature cues available here

       -  Avoid leaning your cue against a wall for extended periods.

       -  Don't leave your cue next to a heat source, such as a radiator.

Be careful not to bang the butt of the cue on hard floors - Although many of our cues have a protective rubber on the
bottom of the cue, banging a cue on a hard floor can cause damage.

We hope you find this short guide helpful, good luck and happy playing.
